You're a local applicant if you are:

  • an Australian citizen
  • an Australian permanent resident
  • a New Zealand citizen

Local applicants are not able to apply as international students, this includes students who are citizens of countries other than Australia and New Zealand.

You're an international applicant if you are:

  • not an Australian citizen
  • not a New Zealand citizen
  • not an Australian permanent resident

Applicants who have Australian or New Zealand citizenship or Australian permanent residency must apply as local applicants.

If you're a local applicant who has lived in a rural area within Australia for an extended period of time during your schooling years, you may be able to apply through the Rural Entry Scheme. You cannot apply through both the Rural Entry Scheme and general local entry. You must select one entry pathway.

If you are of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander origin you can apply to study Medicine through the Indigenous Entry Scheme. You cannot apply through both the Indigenous Entry Scheme and general local entry. You must select one entry pathway.
