Welcome from the Dean

Built for Your Future in Health

USNW Medicine Dean Vlado Perkovic

As one of the world’s top 50 medical faculties, UNSW Medicine brings together excellence in teaching and research that addresses the most significant health challenges we face today.

From the epidemic of obesity to global ageing and the rise of non- communicable diseases, the critical health issues facing our modern world create numerous and diverse possibilities for our Faculty to drive real-world change.

We have a mandate to be progressive, address inherent disadvantages in the health system, improve health care in Indigenous and rural communities, harness underused technology and be a part of a global community that helps people live better – wherever they are.

Our diverse community of exceptionally talented students, clinicians and researchers, coupled with the strength of our state-of-the-art research centres and institutes, translate discovery into therapies, technologies and treatments to diagnose and treat disease in the most critical areas of health.

Our One-of-A-Kind Medical Programs

Developed by industry innovators, we’re proud of our one-of-a-kind medical degree programs designed to embrace critical thinking and recalibrate the way medicine is taught while giving students future-proof clinical experience from day one.

We’re also one of the only medical schools in Australia to offer undergraduate entry to the integrated Bachelor of Medical Studies/Doctor of Medicine (MD), a globally recognised qualification that equips graduate students for unrivalled professional development. In 2019, this degree was the most in-demand medical degree program in NSW.

The Unparalleled Strength of Our World-Class Medical Community

We have almost 300 teaching and research staff and more than 3,000 academic affiliates working in hands-on learning environments in some of Australia’s finest hospitals and healthcare organisations.

The development of UNSW’s partner hospitals in the south-east and south-west of Sydney allows universities and researchers to connect with community. Our newly-developed biomedical research precinct with adjacent Randwick hospitals and relationship with affiliated Medical Research Institutes mean UNSW Medicine is uniquely placed in Australia to improve patient care for true real-world impact.

We commit our world-class research resources to identified areas of excellence: cancer, neuroscience and behaviour, public health, infection and immunity and cardiovascular disease. Our eight schools in Sydney plus country campuses across NSW, means we're the leaders in rural medical education.  We encourage commercialisation and industry connections to ensure discoveries made at UNSW translate into improved health care for the community.

I encourage you to learn more about UNSW Medicine and all we have to offer. We would love to hear from you.
