Welcome to UNSW Medicine
As one of the world’s top medical schools, UNSW Medicine conducts world class teaching and research that addresses some of the world’s most significant health issues.
We aim to make a difference by attracting excellent students and staff who are able to ask the most important questions and who have the capacity to answer them. We provide an environment that is conducive to success, producing graduates and supporting researchers who are among the best in the world.
Whether you are a school student considering joining us for our undergraduate Doctor of Medicine (MD) program, a postgraduate student interested in launching your research career, a health professional with an important clinical question to answer or an established researcher who could benefit from UNSW’s collaborative, innovative approach, I invite you to take a closer look at what we have to offer.
We are one of Australia’s leading research-focused medical faculties and provide new, state of the art research and teaching facilities including the Lowy Cancer Research Centre, the Wallace Wurth Building and the newly-developed biomedical research precinct.
UNSW Medicine is the only medical school in Australia primarily offering undergraduate entry to the integrated Bachelor of Medical Studies/Doctor of Medicine (MD) program, a globally recognised qualification that will equip you for a first class health career.
Our six-year medicine program is unique in teaching doctors more than anatomy and clinical sciences – it will also turn you into a caring healthcare professional equipped to meet the challenges of the aging population, chronic diseases and stretched healthcare budgets. We provide a hands-on learning environment in some of Australia’s finest hospitals, research institutes and healthcare organisations, with students spending time on the wards from their first semester.
Unlike other medical students, our undergraduates spend a year pursuing a research project designed to develop independent thinkers with the skills of analysis and critical thought necessary to conduct future research.
We take a strategic view of research and aim to focus our resources on identified areas of excellence: cancer, neuroscience and behaviour, public health, infection and immunity and cardiovascular disease. We encourage commercialisation and the development of professional networks with industry to ensure discoveries made at UNSW are translated into better health outcomes in the community.
We prioritise social equity and inclusion, and are Australia’s leading provider of Indigenous and rural medical education.
If you are motivated to make a difference, to innovate, to generate new ideas and question old beliefs, then we would love to hear from you.
Professor Rodney Phillips
Dean, UNSW Medicine
