Professor Wakefield AO graduated from UNSW with First Class Honours and the University Medal for Medicine.  He has dual specialist qualifications in internal medicine (FRACP) and pathology (FRCPA) (immunology).  He is Director of the Centre for Immunology and Head of Immunopathology with the South Eastern Area Health Service.  He was Head of the School of Pathology for ten years before becoming foundation professor of the School of Medical Sciences at the UNSW.  He was appointed Associate Dean (Research) and Director of Medical Research in October 2007.
