Niki McDonagh

Research Officer

Niki McDonagh is a Research Officer at the Centre for Healthy Brain Ageing (CHeBA). She brings over 20 years of clinical experience as an Occupational Therapist to her role at CHeBA.  She runs her own Private Practice and has previously held positions within NSW Health, Sydney University, and Private Enterprise.  Her specialist skillset developed from working with people living with neurological impairments, including people living with Dementia.  Her extensive experience and interest in healthy active ageing, aligns well with her research at CHeBA.  She is currently involved in the co-design and pilot study of 'A Novel Social Cognition Intervention for Older Adults with Cognitive Impairment.' Current evidence supports the notion that social connections play a significant part in healthy, active ageing.  Niki is interested in investigating if social skills training can preserve or enhance the social skills of people experiencing cognitive impairment.  Ultimately, her vision is to enhance the ability of older adults to make and sustain social connections to improve their independence, mental health, cognition, and quality of life.
