Dr Michael Tam

Dr CW Michael Tam is the Director of the Primary and Integrated Care Unit (PaICU) of South Western Sydney Local Health District. He is a Conjoint Senior Lecturer in the School of Population Health, Faculty of Medicine at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) Sydney.

Michael has research experience in health services evaluation, integrated care, medical education, and preventive care in general practice.  He is experienced with qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methods.  Michael has been the supervisor or co-supervisor of 11 learner researchers (including medical students and GP registrars).  He peer reviews for several scientific journal, has been a member of a human research ethics committee, and has published on research ethics.

Michael's clinical interest is particularly in comorbid substance use disorder and mental health disorders. His research interests are in integrated care (especially the transition of care between hospitals and general practice), mental health care in general practice settings, and clinical interactions between patients and their GPs.
