We are committed to finding real life, practical solutions to the increasingly complex problems faced by populations, healthcare practitioners, policy makers and health systems as a whole. We bring together cross-disciplinary teams to generate innovative ideas that will address some of these real world issues.
We have established expertise in the research into metabolic disease, health services, epigenetics and population health. We are also committed to being an incubator for emerging ears of research.
Cardiovascular and metabolic disease: Together with the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute and the Garvan Institute of Medical Research, we research all aspects of cardiovascular and metabolic disease such as diabetes.
Population Health: Our Centre for Research Excellence (CRE) in Population Health is examining the health consequences of fossil fuel combustion, landscape fires and alternatives to fossil fuels.
Orthopaedics: We are developing a range of surgical devices and techniques.
Epigenetics: We are studying the link between parental obesity and early childhood events with obesity and high blood pressure.
Stem cell research: Our work is finding ways to regenerate human tissue damaged by injury, disease or ageing.
Healthy ageing: Our work on the mitochondria is showing how the processes that lead to disease and ageing can be reversed.
