Places in Emergency at Prince of Wales are 6 weeks in duration and have a set programme.
School of Women's and Children's Health has limited availability;
Paediatrics is offered mid-January and mid -July for 4 week placements only;
Obstetrics and Gynaecology placements are offered for 4 weeks duration. However, this can be assessed for individual cases.
St Vincent's Hospital has no places in surgery during December and January each year.
The arrangements above are not negotiable. Please see the Areas of Study link below for more information.
Important points to read before applying:
All successful applicants (apart from those studying at New South Wales universities) must obtain an Australian National Police Check from the Australian Federal Police. This must be done before you travel to Sydney and you are required to supply a certified copy or original to the Faculty of Medicine at UNSW. If you supply a certified copy you are required to bring the original with you to give to your Hospital.
Students coming from outside of Australia, in addition to the Australian Federal Police Check, must also provide a criminal record check/statement* from the appropriate authority within their own country at the time of application and are required to forward this statement to UNSW with the application form.
These are the most important documents in your application , without these documents the placement cannot go ahead.
*International students must send their home country's criminal record check with their application but can apply for an Australian Federal Police Check once the student has been offered a Clerkship.
Please see the AFP weblink below for more information on obtaining an Australian Federal Police Check:

| - | Applications for Clerkships (Electives) must be made through the Clerkship Coordinator at the Office of The Dean, Faculty of Medicine directly, not to individual hospitals. |
| - | Applications for medical clerkships are subject to the availability of clinical resources and an offer can be withdrawn at any time. The University receives more applications than there are places available. |
| - | Students may apply for one (1) clerkship only. |
Please note that international and interstate students are NOT ELIGIBLE for half fare concession travel on government public transport in Sydney. Purchase and use of concession tickets may result in a heavy fine. |
