About Us

Biological Resources operates in compliance with the Animal Research Act 1985 and the Australian Code of Practice for the care and use of animals for scientific purposes.

The Animal Care and Ethics Committee (ACEC) which is established in accordance with the Act, is the body within UNSW in which responsibility for animal research at UNSW is vested. More information on the ACEC, its membership and activities can be obtained from the Grants Management Office website.

All staff employed by Biological Resources have responsibilities in relation to the well being and welfare of the animals being held in the animal facilities. As the providers of day-to-day care for the animals, the animal technicians are in a critically important position to ensure the well being of the animals.

The animal technicians share responsibility with the Chief Investigator and the UNSW Animal Ethics Committee for ensuring compliance with the Legislation and all amendments and regulation.
